The court sentenced 39 defendants to life in prison for allegedly storming local police stations and churches in Egypt’s central Minya province in mid-2013, defense lawyer Khaled al-Koumi told Medias.
According to al-Koumi, 11 other defendants were slapped with 10-year prison terms, 17 with seven-year terms and three with five-year terms.
Twenty-one other defendants in the case were acquitted due to a lack of evidence, the lawyer said.
The court sentences can still be appealed before a military appeals tribunal, according to al-Koumi.
