'The US measures against Iran, especially its imposition of sanctions against the country, tend to teach a lesson to everyone,' Ivan Timofiev said in an interview with the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) in the Russian capital on Sunday, referring to the US May, 5 withdrawal from the Iran nuclear agreement formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).
Timofiev added that despite the US withdrawal, Iran has fairly fulfilled its obligations under the 2015 international agreement.
He said that Iran presently is pursuing a calculated policy.
'The European Union is trying to keep the JCPOA, while Russia has taken a steadfast stance to defend and support the agreement,' he stressed.
Iran will never succumb to tensions caused by the US and will not follow to militarize its nuclear program, he said.
'Tehran's measures have isolated the United States,' he added.
The Russian senior expert said there was a chance for Iran to overcome the US sanctions adding, 'Unilateral sanctions against Iran are not effective.'
Timofiev reiterated that the only way to deal with US sanctions is to gain power.
'There is no other way to overcome sanctions,' he said.
He went on to call US sanctions against other nations a common practice of Washington used over the past half a century in more than 130 cases against different countries.
In 80 cases, the US has used sanctions to overthrow anti-American governments, he added.
