Imam Ali (as),First youth to accept Islam

Ali was born some thirty years after the birth of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). He belonged to the most respectable family of Quraish, the Banu Hashim. His father "Abu Talib" was the real uncle of the Holy Prophet who brought him up after the death of the Holy Prophet’s grandfather.

19th of Ramadhan (Shab-e-Zarbat) or Night of attack on Imam Ali (as) at Kufa Mosque

On the 19th of Ramadan month (Mah-e-Ramazan) of the year 40 A.H, Imam Ali (pbuh) came to the mosque in Kufa for his morning prayers. Imam Ali (pbuh) gave the call for prayer (Azaan) and became engaged in leading the congregation. Abd-al-Rahman ibn Muljam pretending to pray, stood just behind Imam Ali (pbuh), and when Imam Ali (pbuh) was in a state of prostration, Abd-al-Rahman ibn Muljam dealt a heavy stroke with his sword, inflicting a deep wound on Imam Ali’s (pbuh) head.

Imam Ali`s Martyrdom

On the 19th of Ramadan month (Mah-e-Ramazan) of the year 40 A.H, Imam Ali came to the mosque in Kufa for his morning prayers. The Last Will And the Testament

The following is one piece of advice offered to his sons, Imam Hasan (pbuh) and Imam Hussain (pbuh), as well as to his people, the nation and coming generations:

Up on the shoulders of the Messenger of God…

One night, when the Prophet [pbuh] was at home with his wife Khadijah, he asked Imam Ali (as) to go to their house. Without any hesitation Imam obeyed his command and went there; it seemed that the Messenger of God was ready to go outside in the darkness of the night; but he didn’t say anything about his plans and he just said:” Ali! Be ready and do follow me, wherever I go.”

The Sufferings of Imam Ali after the Prophet's demise: The usurped Caliphate

After the death of the Prophet, Abu Bakr became the caliph instead of me. Every time he saw me, he used to ask for my forgiveness for his oppression against me. He used to ask for my forgiveness, and he used to blame his friend Omar, for having taken my true right, and broken their covenant with me, and for all these matters, he always asked for my forgiveness.

During that battle, we had the banner of the Prophet with which God had always demolished the dark forces with it, and Moaviye had the banner which had belonged to his father, and which, in all wars, had been raised against our Prophet and the troop of Islam.

The Night of Destiny

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) is quoted on page 265, Vol. 3, of al- Amin's work Miftahul Jannat, saying: "Allah has favored Friday over all other days, the month of Ramadan over all other months, and the Night of Destiny (Lailatul-Qadr) over all other nights."
