Birjand; City of Castles - Iran
There are over 20 castles, citadels and fortresses in South Khorasan province. The main reason is because it has always been a strategic region for the central government. Soldiers were trained and prepared to fight invaders. This is the reason why there are also many “Zour-khaneh” or traditional gymnasiums in the region. The sport itself called “Varzesh-e Bastani” (which means ancient sport) is still quite popular. We went to one of them to take look and learn more.

Chehel Sotoun
Chehel Sotoun is a pavilion in the middle of a park at the far end of a long pool, in Isfahan, Iran, built by Shah Abbas II to be used for his entertainment and receptions. In this palace, Shah Abbas II and his successors would receive dignitaries and ambassadors, either on the terrace or in one of the stately reception halls.
