Quranic Outlook Regarding the "Heart"
Perhaps I need not explain here that in the language of literature and mysticism the term heart does not mean the organ situated in the left side of the human body, which pumps blood into the blood vessels.
The Inimitability Of The Holy Quran
In addition to the scientific and historical points of view, the Qur"an also possesses an astounding, inimitable style from the literary perspective.
Scientific exegesis of the Qur'an—a viable project
A number of modern Muslim writers see the Qur'an as containing information or knowledge of a scientific nature. They have, accordingly, argued for the viability of what is called tafsir 'ilmi, or scientific exegesis of the Qur'an. This paper presents and analyzes the case for and the case against tafsir 'ilmi. The principal conclusion reached is that, while the case for such tafsir is, at present, rather weak, a credible tafsir 'ilmi may come into existence if it is authentically anchored in the larger Islamic tradition.
Some Logical Fallacies Dealt With In the Qur'an
A widely held belief about the Qur'an is that it makes its basic appeal to emotions and not to reason. Among the advocates of this view were the Muslim philosophers of early centuries who used a theory of intellectual classes to support it.
Was the Qur'an Revealed according to Seven Harfs?
synopsis: Presentation of the traditions about the revelation of the Qur'an according to seven harfs; a refutation of these traditions; the lack of any reference to a rational meaning of the revelation of the Qur'an in seven harfs; the ten interpretations mentioned for the seven harfs; explanation of the incorrectness of these interpretations.
The Qur'an Oaths: Farahi's Interpretation
Many of the early Qur'anic surahs contain oaths, typical of which are the oaths sworn by the sun and the moon, day and night, and light and darkness.
The Qur'an Story of Joseph: Plot, Themes, and Characters
For its sheer readability, the Qur'anic story of Joseph, told in S. 12, is perhaps unsurpassed in the whole of the Qur'an. The less than one hundred verses of the narrative [1] telescope many years, present an amazing variety of scenes and characters in a tightly-knit plot, and offer a dramatic illustration of some of the fundamental themes of the Qur'an. The present article, as the title indicates, is a study of selected aspects of the sura. The study is mainly literary in character. As such it will not deal with that part of the sura (the concluding part, chiefly) in which the Qur'an seeks to apply the story to the Meccan situation of Muhammad's time.[2] I have thus limited the scope of this inquiry in order to bring into relief, with reference to S. 12, a sorely neglected aspect of the Qur'an, namely, the literary aspect. It is not necessary to reproduce the story in detail or in outline any of the well-known translations of the Qur'an can be used for purposes of reference.
THE QUR'ANIC ETYMOLOGIES OF "NAZARENE" AND "GOSPEL" AND THEIR HISTORICAL IMPLICATIONS
The Qur’an and the New Testament agree on a number of issues regarding Jesus Christ. Both books, for instance, stress that Jesus, who is called “‘Īsā” in the Qur’an, was conceived miraculously by his mother Mary. He had no father. This is what the Qur’an says about the miraculous birth of ‘īsā:
The Demand of the Qur'an for a Direct Confrontation
The Noble Qur'an was revealed in the Arabic language, one of the richest languages in the world from the point of view of firmness of structure and abundance of vocabulary.
What Is The Challenge Of The Qur'an
This article is devoted to deal with one aspect of the Qur'anic challenge of produce a surah like it. What is meant by surah like it with respect to the Arabic prose and poetry?
