The city itself has a very unique architecture which includes structures called “Kolah-Farangi”, wind towers (used for ventilation) designed to allow light inside the buildings.

There are over 20 castles, citadels and fortresses in South Khorasan province. The main reason is because it has always been a strategic region for the central government.
