Birjand; the City of Culture - Iran
In this feature we will be telling you about a people who are fond of knowledge. Iran’s third modern school was opened in this city. Over 30 well-known Iranian scientists come from the city of Birjand. The city itself has a very unique architecture which includes structures called “Kolah-Farangi”, wind towers (used for ventilation) designed to allow light inside the buildings.
Birjand; City of Castles - Iran
There are over 20 castles, citadels and fortresses in South Khorasan province. The main reason is because it has always been a strategic region for the central government. Soldiers were trained and prepared to fight invaders. This is the reason why there are also many “Zour-khaneh” or traditional gymnasiums in the region. Baysonqor Quran - Iran
