بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحمْنِ الرَّحيم

In the name of Allah,The Beneficent, The Merciful

اللّهُمّ اشْرَحْ بِالقُرْآنِ صَدْرِي،

 allahumma ashrah bilqur’ani sadre

 O Allah: (please) expand my breast through the Qur’an

وَاسْتَعْمِلْ بِالقُرْآنِ بَدَنِي،

 wasta`mil bilqur’ani badane

 And use my body for the Qur’an

وَنَوّرْ بِالقُرْآنِ بَصَرِي،

 wa nawwir bilqur’ani basare

 And enlighten my sight by the Qur’an

وَأَطْلِقْ بِالقُرْآنِ لِسَانِي،

 wa a§liq bilqur’ani lisane

 And make my tongue eloquent by the Qur’an

وَأَعِنّي عَلَيْهِ مَا أَبْقَيْتَنِي

 wa a`inne `alayhi ma abqaytany

 And help me carry out its duty as long as You keep me alive,

فَإِنّهُ لا حَوْلَ وَلا قُوّةَ إِلاَّ بِكَ.

 fa’innahu la hawla wa la quwwata illa bika

 For there is neither power nor might save with You.

It is recommended, too, to say the following  Dua’a that is reported from Imam `Ale Amer al-Mu"minen (A.S):

اللّهُمّ إِنّي أَسْأَلُكَ إِخْبَاتَ المُخْبِتِينَ،

 allahumma inne as’aluka ikhbata almukhbitena

 O Allah: I do beseech You for the humbleness of those who humble themselves before You;

وَإِخْلاصَ المُوقِنِينَ،

 wa ikhlasa almuqinena

 and for the sincerity of those possessing certainty;

وَمُرَافَقَةَ الأَبْرَارِ،

 wa murafaqata alabrari

 and for the companionship of the pious ones;

وَاسْتِحْقَاقَ حَقَائِقِ الاِيمَانِ،

 wastihqaqa haqa’iqi al’emani

 and for the worthiness of the truths of faith;

وَالغَنِيمَةَ مِنْ كُلّ بِرّ،

 wal-ghanemata min kulli birrin

 and for gaining a share of all pious deeds;

وَالسّلامَةَ مِنْ كُلّ إِثْمٍ،

 wal-ssalamata min kulli ithmin

 and for safety from all sins;

وَوُجُوبَ رَحْمَتِكَ،

 wa wujuba rahmatika

 and for the merit of Your mercy;

وَعَزَائِمَ مَغْفِرَتِكَ،

 wa `aza’ima maghfiratika

 and for the qualifications of winning Your forgiveness;

وَالفَوْزَ بِالجَنّةِ،

 wal-fawza biljannati

 and for winning Paradise;

وَالنّجَاةَ مِنَ النَّارِ.

wal-nnajata mina alnnari

 and for salvation from Hellfire.
