Abū Muhammad Taqī al-Dīn al-hasan ben 'Alī ben Dāwūd al-hillī , known as Ibn Dāwūd al-hillī , was a Shiite scholar of rijal, fiqh, Arabic literature, and a poet in the 7th/13th century. Ibn Dawud was contemporary with al-'Allama al-Hilli. His best-known work is Kitab al-Rijal. His prominent teachers include al-Muhaqqiq al-Hilli, al-Sayyid Jamal al-Din Ahmad b. Tawus, and al-Sayyid 'Abd al-Karim b. al-Sayyid Ahmad b. Tawus.
Ibn Dawud al-Hilli was born on Jumada II 5, 647 (September 15, 1249).
In Hillah, he must have spent most of his life and grown in this city. However, since Ibn Dawud called his teacher, Ibn Tawus, "Baghdadi l-tahsil" (a person who studied in Baghdad) and said that he accompanied him until his death, he must have also stayed in Baghdad for a while. Moreover, according to a verse of his poem,'Aqd al-jawahir, he was in Kadhimiya in Dhu l-Qa'da 700 , and according to another poem of his, Manhaj al-taqwim, he said that he enjoyed the blessing of living inNajaf.
Ibn Dawud died after 707/1307.
