Iran disregards western pressure by missile display

Tehran once again displayed during the pro-government rallies on Sunday its defiance of the western pressures on its missile program, the Reuters news agency said in a report covering the annual February rallies in Iran.

“In a show of defiance of Western pressure to curb its ballistic missile program, Iran put its Qadr ballistic missile with a range of 2,000 km (1,240 miles) on display in Tehran’s central Vali-ye Asr street,” Reuters said in a report covering the February 11 rallies marking the 39th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution on Sunday.

Iran displayed a wide range of missiles, including a long-range ballistic Qadr missile, during the nationwide rallies to celebrate

The missile can carry different types of ‘Blast’ and ‘MRV’ (Multiple Reentry Vehicle) payloads to destroy a range of targets. The new version of Qadr H can be launched from mobile platforms or silos in different positions and can escape missile defense shields due to their radar-evading capability.

Millions of people from all walks of life rallied in different cities and towns across Iran to celebrate the nation’s victory that put an end to the monarchical rule of the Washington Pahlavi regime.

The Iranian military also displayed Fajr 5, another home-made missile produced by the Iranian military experts for short-range targets, during the rallies today.

The missile display came in the backdrop of increasing disputes over Tehran’s missile power by the US-led western nations. Washington has warned that it would discard the 2015 nuclear deal unless Iran approves of a wide set of concessions that include harnessing its missile and regional power.

In response, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and other high-ranking officials have shown steadfast opposition to any such excessive demand, sterssing that Tehran will definitely reject any offer or request that might be raised in future by foreign countries to hold talks on the country’s missile program.

Each year on the 22nd of the month of Bahman on the Persian calendar, Iranians turn out to renew their allegiance to the Islamic establishment and Imam Khomeini, the late founder of the Islamic Republic.

The 2018 rallies came amid US President Donald Trump’s hostile policies on Tehran, ranging from his warning that he might ultimately terminate the nuclear deal to his meddlesome stance on some scattered riots in Iran recently.
