Syrian Mufti Warns Russia against Sending Students to Saudi Arabia

Syria’s grand Mufti Sheikh Ahmad Badreddin Hassoun warned Russia prevent university students from travelling to countries like Saudi Arabia for religious studies.

Speaking in a meeting with a Russian parliamentary delegation, he said Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar and Turkey seek to turn such students into individuals who would carry out their agenda.

Many of foreign students who study in Saudi schools and institutes are radicalized by the Wahhabi ideology taught in these schools and some of them join extremist groups like Daesh (ISIL or ISIS).

The senior cleric also slammed the weekend missile strikes on Syria by three western powers as an attack on all nations.

He added that such acts of aggression only make the Syrian nation more united against enemies.

The US, Britain and France launched airstrikes on Saturday against Syrian research, storage and military targets under the pretext of a suspected chemical attack near Damascus last weekend that killed more than 40 people.

This is while Syria turned over its entire chemical stockpile under a deal negotiated by Russia and the United States back in 2013.
