During the weekly speech on Tuesday, Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi said “operations that target Daesh members in Syria are ongoing. They depend on Iraqi intelligence information.”

Iraqi troops, according to Abadi, “achieved great progress in securing roads, after special operations were carried out last week.”

He also noted that the battle against terrorism requires “effort from the media and society, after the group was militarily defeated.”

On Saturday, the National Iraqi News Agency, the Iraqi forces tightened their grip on the country’s borders with Syria to curb infiltration of terrorists between the two countries. An iron fence was set up on the Iraqi-Syrian borders where surveillance cameras will be installed to control the borderline.

Iraqi warplanes launched, last month, a new wave of air raids against outposts of the Daesh group in Syria.

Iraq had previously announced launching airstrikes against ISIS locations in Syria. This came after Abadi said security troops will follow IS militants in the whole region, not only in Iraq.
