Syrian Army Constructs Barbed Wire Fence along Lebanese Border

The Syrian Army (SAA) has constructed a large barbed wire fence along the Lebanese border, the National News Agency reported.

According to the Lebanese publication, the Syrian installed a barbed wire fence along the Matrabeh-Qusayr Crossing in order to prevent any illegal entry into either country.

The movement of residents of neighboring villages has become restricted to the legal border-crossings, most notably the Joussiyeh Crossing near the town of Al-Qa’a.

This move by the Syrian Army comes just days after the first batch of refugees returned to the country after living several years in Lebanon.

The new barbed wire fence was agreed upon by the Syrian and Lebanese governments, as they both work to return the refugees to Syria.

The first 600 Syrian refugees left the camps in rural ‘Arsal last week; they were welcomed at the  newly established camps in the Qalamoun region of Damascus.

An estimated 61,000 Syrian refugees are still living in camps around the ‘Arsal District of east Lebanon.
