"Today more than 300,000 Americans are deployed or forward stationed in 177 countries," the Pentagon's information office quoted the US military commander as saying.
As usual, the military commander used the so-called counter-terrorism as an excuse of deploying US troops, claiming that US military personnel are conducting operations to defeat the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, standing watch in Korea, and enhancing interoperability with allies in Poland.
Dunford said, “I can say with absolute confidence that today's force can meet all of our alliance commitments around the world, and I can say with absolute confidence that the United States military has a competitive advantage over any potential adversary.”
Currently there are 60,000 US military personnel in Europe, stationed in 13 garrisons in five European countries; Holland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and Italy.
The US Air Force also uses seven bases in six countries - Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Britain, Germany and Belgium - as well as US naval vessels deployed in the Mediterranean, the Gulf and other maritime areas.
Tens of thousands of American troops are deployed in the Arab region and Afghanistan. The US has military bases in the Gulf States. Recently, the presence of US forces in the occupied areas of Yemen has been involved in the aggression against Yemen.
Media reports have revealed the US forces support to the Takfiri groups, as Daesh and Al- Qaeda.
