Closer relations between Iran and Russia is quite necessary because of the two countries' geopolitical situation, Chairman of the Russian State Duma's Foreign Affairs Leonid Slutsky said in a meeting with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani.

The Russian MP welcomed establishment of a joint committee for development of cooperation between Tehran and Moscow and urged promotion of cooperation in all fields, in particular, the oil, gas and transit areas.

He described the US pull-out from Iran nuclear deal as irrational.

Slutsky said that Tehran and Moscow have strategic cooperation to resolve the Syrian crisis.
