Navy Chief : Status of Hormuz Strait Relies on Iran

Navy Commander Rear Admiral Hossein Khanzadi said that any decision on the strategic Strait of Hormuz is dependent on securing Iran’s interests

Commander of the Iranian Navy, Admiral Hussein Khanzadi, stressed that the continuation to keep the Straits of Hormuz open depends on the security of Iranian interests and the international community's compliance with its commitments to Iran.

"Any unjust measures imposed on Iran will certainly affect the activity of the Strait of Hormuz, and everyone should know that the outcome of a resolution at the international level will not only affect one country but will affect others," the official IRNA news agency reported the Admiral saying.

Threats have grown, over the past period of time, linked to the Strait after Iranian warnings that it would close it to oil shipments if Washington went on to force countries to stop buying Iranian oil. US pressure has been exerting on Iran since Trump withdrew from the nuclear deal.

At the same time, Khanzadi stressed that Iran is keen to work on the Strait and preserve its security as part of the interests of the Islamic Republic.
