Sochi Stresses Unity, Sovereignty, Independence of Syrian Territory

The Guarantor States meeting in Sochi issued their final statement, which stressed the unity, sovereignty and independence of the Syrian territories, and revealed the agreement to hold a high-level meeting on Syria in November of this year.

Sochi's statement revealed that all parties have confirmed their definition of counter-terrorism in Syria to be eliminating Al-nsarh and al-Qaeda.

The statement also said that the guarantors agreed to complete confidence-building by resolving the issue of detainees with the Red Cross and the United States.


The statement states that the Guarantor States confirm their opposition to any separatist attempts aimed at undermining the sovereignty of Syria and neighboring countries, and called on the international community, especially the United Nations, to increase its assistance to Syria.

On Monday, the 10th discussion started in Astana, in which bilateral meetings were held between the participating delegations in the presence of representatives of the Committee for the Safeguards in Syria, Russia, Turkey and Iran. On the second day the meetings continued, but in the Russian city of Sochi. 


The meeting also witnessed useful exchanges on the composition of the Constitution Drafting Committee, in line with the criteria set out in resolution 2254 and 2015, and the final Sochi statement, as well as a host of other issues relating to the establishment and functioning of the Constitutional Commission.

The head of the Russian delegation to the negotiations of Astana ,Alexander Lavrentiev ,said that Moscow is counting on the participation of Washington in the talks in Astana, pointing out that "Russia's position is consistent and support the unity of Syrian territory and the Geneva political track."
