Role of Sahabah in Imam Hussein’s (PBUH) Uprising

Sheikh Muhammad Hashim al-Madani says Sahabah, the companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), played a significant role in the revolution of Imam Hussein (PBUH).

Speaking on Al-Kawthar program “One Nation”, Sheikh Madani said that Ahl ul-Bayt (PBUH), the household of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) had respected the other opinions and treated Sahabah with full respect and appreciation.

He noted that the relation between Ahl ul-Bayt (PBUH) and the Sahabah should not cause division among Muslims, and should be understood correctly.

The cleric stressed that Ahl ul-Bayt (PBUH) respected each companion, despite the disputes that took place in the early years of Islam.

Later, especially after the Imam Zayn al-Abidin (PBUH) and Imam Baqir (PBUH) and Imam Sadiq (PBUH), there was no rift between Ahl ul-Bayt (PBUH) and the Sahabah, Sheikh Madani added.

The cleric further stressed that the companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) played a big role and actively participated in Imam Hussein’s (PBUH) uprising.

Madani added that none of the Sahabah backed Yazid, even in the earlier battles, referring to this as an indication that Sahabah were pursuing the path of righteousness and guidance, and that whenever they found the righteousness and the right way to God, they followed it.

He added that Sahabah were followers of Ahl ul-Bayt (PBUH), unlike the conception that assumes that there are two schools: the school of Sahabah and the school of Ahl ul-Bayt (PBUH).

“In my opinion, there is only one school which is the school of Islam, that includes Ahl ul-Bayt (PBUH) and Sahabah” who were working to serve Islam although each of them could have a different vision, the cleric said.

“Our enemy” tries to turn these two elements from richness source to a cause of division among the Muslims, Sheikh Madani concluded.
