Japan Eager to Buy Iran Oil

Deputy Prime Minister Tarō Asō referred to US sanction on Iran oil, and said that Japan is after buying Iranian oil and being exempted from oil sanctions.

Asō made the remarks Saturday in a meeting with Iran ambassador to Japan Morteza Rahmani Movahed.

In its meetings with US administration, Japanese government has underlined the importance of preserving historic ties with Iran and also oil exchange with the Iranian side.

Rahmani Movahed, for his part, hailed the Japanese government's supports for Iran's nuclear deal also known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Economic sectors of Iran and Japan expect supporting relations, he said.

Both sides also highlighted the importance of reinforcing historic and economic relations.

Japan oil imports from Iran reached 162,222 barrels per day until June 2018.

The figure experienced 2.7% fall compared to the same period last year.
