"This amount is the largest contribution to the areas extracted from Daesh in Syria, which is an update of the era presented by Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir on July 12 last in Brussels."
The US State Department on Thursday welcomed the Saudi contribution, saying in a statement: "This significant contribution is critical to stabilization and early recovery efforts and comes at an important time in the campaign."
The State Department called on U.S. partners and allies “to do their share in this effort that helps bring greater stability and security to the region.”
The Saudi contribution comes as President Donald Trump’s administration is looking to bypass the U.S. Congress to reduce foreign aid spending, including funds for programs in Syria, the West Bank and Gaza.
According to media reports, the United States is seeking to expand and establish military bases in northern Iraq, claiming to fight against Daesh.
