"We have pilots in the air -meaning the Yemeni airspace- who know the seriousness of the missions and when they are given the mandate, they do not just fire rockets or launch bombs," Matisse told a news conference.

"There are areas where bombing is prohibited; when there are hospitals or schools, and we acknowledge any mistakes," Matisse said. "This mistake, if committed, it is tragic." Adding that " we periodically review the support provided to the alliance," of US-Saudi aggression in Yemen.

The US secretary of Defense said "Washington is working to move the conflict in Yemen to the UN negotiating table as soon as possible."
