Palestinian Prisoner on Hunger Strike for His Release

Palestinian prisoner Amran al-Khatib has been on hunger strike for over 26 days to pressure his jailers to give him an early release, according to the Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS).

A lawyer for the PPS visited the prisoner on Thursday in Ohalei Kedar jail and reported that Khatib’s health condition worsened, especially since he already suffers from several health problems.

The PPS lawyer said that the prisoner is determined to continue his hunger strike despite his exposure to pressures by the jailers and repeated transfers to other jails.

The lawyer added that Khatib could be transferred to an Israeli hospital during the coming days.

Prisoner Khatib has been in jail since 1997, serving a 45-year term. He is a father of four children.
