It was not clear what the two leaders would discuss but the Emir of Kuwait led mediation efforts to resolve a row that erupted a year ago when Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt cut diplomatic, trade and transport ties with Qatar.
The four countries have accused Doha of supporting terrorism, which is also backed by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Qatar denies the accusations and insists the boycott is an attempt to undermine its sovereignty.
Trump publicly sided with Saudi Arabia and the UAE at the start of the crisis, but then began to push for a solution to restore unity in the Gulf to preserve US interests.
The press reports on US and Arab officials said that the Trump administration is moving forward secretly, in an effort to form a new security and political alliance with the six Persian Gulf States, Egypt and Jordan, for purposes including normalization with the Zionist entity.
