Turkish Opposition Leader Calls on Erdogan to Talk with Assad

Turkish People's Party (CPP) leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu has called on his country's authorities under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to begin negotiations with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad

Kiligdar Oglu, leader of Turkey's largest opposition party, said in a statement issued Friday by his office on the latest developments in Syria that "the only solution to the Syrian crisis is to negotiate with Assad's regime and sit down with him at the dialogue table.”

"As for the crisis in the northern province of Idlib, Erdogan's government has to sit at the table with the Damascus government without wasting more time. Assad is winning the internal war in his country, and talking to him will bring great benefits to Turkey," said Kilicdaroglu.

He added that Turkey must communicate with Assad about the crisis in Idlib, “the world, including the United States, is in contact with the Syrian regime, so what is preventing Turkey from continuing with the Damascus government," he said.

The Turkish government should inform the Russian, Iranian and American officials of the scale of the disaster that will hit our country in the event of a new wave of asylum in our territory, he said.

Kilicdaroglu reiterated earlier that Turkey should re-establish ties with the Assad administration, which were cut off by Ankara over the outbreak of civil war in Syria in 2011.
