EU Extends Sanctions against Russia for another Six Months

The Council of the European Union on Thursday agreed to extend its current sanctions against certain Russian individuals and entities "over actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity" of Ukraine for another six months.

According to Sputnik, the statement read "the Council has prolonged the restrictive measures over actions undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine for a further six months, until 15 March 2019. The measures consist of asset freezes and travel restrictions. They currently apply to 155 persons and 44 entities."  

The representative of Ukrainian President, Arena Lutsinka, had announced earlier that President Pietro Porchenko, intends to raise the issue of sanctions against Russia in the session of the General Assembly of the United Nations because of the situation in the Sea of Azov.

Kiev accuses Moscow of blocking the shipping route to ships bound for Ukraine across the Straits of Kerat.
