Enraged by the massive destruction caused by Israeli wars on Gaza Strip, a Palestinian female engineer has decided to use her engineering experience to rebuild the seaside enclave.
With almost half of the cost of traditional bricks, Mashharawi replaces sand and aggregate with her new formula called “GreenCake” to produce a lightweight brick from materials that would have otherwise been wasted.
She is also stepping in to solve a chronic electricity crisis in the strip, using renewable energy technologies to save the Palestinian territory from darkness.
“The region has a resource that can be harnessed: an average of 320 days of sunshine a year, making solar energy an ideal source of electricity production,” Mashharawi said.
