Al-Akhbar newspaper said that Al-Shamsi discussed with his Syrian host, security issues and ways to resume frozen relations between the two countries.
The UAE is keen to resume diplomatic representation between the two countries, but is keen not to provoke anger in Riyadh.
Abu Dhabi has offered the possibility of "indirect resumption" of relations by assigning the Ambassador of the UAE in Beirut, Hamad Al-Shamsi, to the Department of Embassy Affairs in Damascus from its headquarters in the capital Lebanese, the newspaper reported.
The newspaper added that the two countries maintained despite the Syrian war, a certain level of "warmth" in their relationship through security channels, especially that the two parties combined common hostility to the "Muslim brotherhood".
The UAE had frozen relations with the Syria since the beginning of the Syrian war in response to Saudi pressure.
