 Saghalkasar - Iran’s Cleanest Lake

When silent, you will only hear the sounds of nature. The landscape is a manifestation of the beauty of creation for as far as the eye can see. With tree reflections dancing in the water, these are some of the experiences you have had on lake trips.

To see one of Iran’s beautiful lakes, we must travel to Saghalkasar village; a village situated 15kms to the south of Rasht, in Iran’s northern Guilan Province, with its welcoming, hospitable people.

Next to the village, a terrain dam has given birth to Saghalkasar lake in a forested area, attracting tourists from near and far.

This precious gem has gathered immunities around it, alluring visitors to take a detour and spend a few happy hours by the lake.

This has been dubbed as Iran’s cleanest lake. An interesting tradition has led to this nickname, of course. Upon arrival, you are handed a bin liner to collect your rubbish. It you do this, two-thirds of your entry fee will be returned to you.

You can go on hikes in Saghalkasar lake and its environs. Boating, the thrilling house in the middle of the lake, picnics, and photography are all part of this fun trip.

If you look closely, you will see a half sunken house in the lake carrying many tales with it. Some say the structure is house that drowned as the water rose; and others believe this is a boat built like a house which has anchored in the lake.

One of the most important points to observe here is cleanliness, making sure your rubbish does not ruin this beautiful site. Make sure to collect you rubbish as you leave the lake and put them in the nearest bin.
