Tripartite talks between Iran, Turkey and Russia have been launched through initiative of the three countries since February of 2016 in the capital of Kazakhstan, Astana, to politically resolve the issue of the Syrian civil war.

Within the framework of these negotiations, which have been called Astana negotiations or “Astana process”, so far, 13 meetings have been held.

Erdogan wrote on Monday in an article published in the Russian newspaper Kommersant while referring to the continuation of the talks that there may be differences of opinion among the parties in the course of these negotiations, but efforts are under way in the direction of shared opinions.

He added that Turkey has tried to prevent the deepening of the humanitarian crisis from the beginning of the Syrian crisis by utilizing all its facilities and has shown the world how constructive dialogue with the parties is concerned.

Referring to the recent agreement between Turkey and Russia in Sochi on the situation of Idlib, Erdogan added, “After identifying extremist groups, along with Russia, we will prevent the activities of radical groups in Syria, especially in Idlib.'

The Turkish president said that the implementation of the agreement between the two countries of Turkey and Russia on the establishment of a civilian area in Idlib will be followed up, and wrote, “A regional separation zone between the areas under the control of the opposition and the Syrian army should be established, and based on that the opposition will remain in their positions.”
