224 Historical Monuments Discovered in Iran

Recent excavations in Iranian central city of Tabas, in South Khorasan Province, have led to the discovery of 224 historical monuments.

Head of the archeological team Ali Asghar Mahmoudi Nasab said that the monuments are mainly belong to the Islamic period.

Mahmoudi Nasab added that the monuments include historical buildings, sites, caves, roads, mines, furnaces, graveyards and rock inscriptions from the Islamic era.

In addition, some pre-Islamic roads and rock inscriptions were found, he said.

Most of the monuments found along historical roads are cisterns and caravanserais, he said.

Also furnaces are mainly found in the margin of deserts due to the abundance of the vegetation that was used as the fuel.
