US Warns India if Buys Russian S-400 System Missiles

The United States has warned India of a planned deal to buy Russian S-400 surface-to-air missiles during Russian President Vladimir Putin's visit to New Delhi this week and said the deal will subject India to sanctions under US law.

A Kremlin official said India and Russia would sign the $ 5 billion missile deal, during Putin's visit for annual summit talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Moody, which begins on Thursday.

The Indian army wants these missile batteries to deter China and surpass Pakistan because they are capable of downing fighter jets even stealth jets on unprecedented ranges.

The United States has warned countries dealing with Russia's defense and intelligence sectors that they would be subjected to sanctions under a comprehensive law called the US Enemy Combatant Act, signed by President Donald Trump in August.
