Speaking on Al-Kawthar program “Doctrines of Islam”, Gharawi said Imam Hussein (PBUH) managed through his uprising to break the fear barrier, which was imposed on the nation, and revived the spirit of the revolution and redemption.

The cleric added that it was clear for Imam Hussein (PBUH) that the uprising could not succeed militarily, but he also knew that it would be a starting point for the crowds to move and that it would revive the spirit of resistance among them.

After Imam Hussein (PBUH) rose up and martyred, the revolutions began sequentially and the ruling regime began to reel and to lose its connection with the nation as well as to use crackdown and repression to silent the voices of dissent and suppress freedoms, Gharawi said.

He added that feeling of guilt for the killing of Imam Hussein (PBUH) arose in the form of armed, violent reactions.

The political and psychological conditions back then paved the way for the emergence of movements resisting the Umayyad ruler and working on weakening it which eventually led to the overthrow of the Umayyads, the cleric concluded.
