Tornado warning cancelled, storm still live

THE Tornado warning for the region has been cancelled but residents are still warned of large hail and destructive winds. BOM advise very dangerous thunderstorms are still occurring around the Wide Bay and Burnett regions.

Severe thunderstorms are likely to produce damaging winds and large hailstones over the next several hours in the Wide Bay and Burnett, Darling Downs and Granite Belt and parts of the Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia, Maranoa and Warrego and Southeast Coast districts.

Locations which may be affected include Dalby, Gympie, Kingaroy, Biloela, Cherbourg and Tara.

UPDATE 4PM

THE Bureau of Meteorology has issued a tornado warning for Tiaro, Maryborough and Hervey Bay.  

A very dangerous thunderstorm with an observed tornado at Tansey (NE of Murgon) is expected to continue its northeast track.  

A recently developed thunderstorm, north of Miles is expected to intensify futher and produce similar conditions as it tracks northeast over the next few hours.  

Severe thunderstorms are developing across the southern Darling Downs which is forecast to develop and extend north during the afternoon.

QFES advises people should:   

-Move your car under cover or away from trees.   

-Secure loose outdoor items.   

-Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.   

-Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.  

-Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.   

-For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500.   

UPDATE 3.50PM:

A SUPER storm packing Tornado-like winds and hail is headed for Tiaro and will likely hit parts of Maryborough.

The storm is tracking north-east and is expected to cross between 4-5pm.

Residents are advised to secure all loose items and put their cars undercover.
