Since anti-government protestets in 2011, Al Khalifa regime has been heavily clamping down on dissents under various pretexts including attempts to assassinate officials, the formation of terrorist organizations and membership in such groups and the illegal transportation of firearms.

Bahrain News Agency (BNA) cited Chief Prosecutor and Acting Chief of the Terror Crimes Prosecution, Hamad Shaheen, on Monday that seven people have been convicted of being accomplices in exploding an oil pipeline in Buri village south of Manama in November 2017.

'The defendants were convicted with establishing and joining a terrorist group, handling, possession and using explosives and detonation of terrorist blast, receiving training on the use of weapons and explosives to commit terrorist crimes and financing the terrorist group,' BNA wrote.

Shahin has declared the first to fifth defendants were sentenced to life imprisonment and were ordered to pay a fine of 200,000 Bahraini dinars ($531,000). The sixth defendant was sentenced to 10 years in prison while the seventh defendant was given five years in prison and was ordered to pay a fine of 100,000 Bahraini dinars ($265,000)

According to Bahrain Criminal Court, the first, third, fourth, fifth and sixth defendants were also ordered to pay compensation for the alleged damage inflicted on the oil pipeline.

In addition to seizing all the property of the first to sixth defendants, the Bahraini court stripped them of citizenship.

Ten and six other people were accused of orchestrating unrest and terrorist activities in March 2017 and June 2018 respectively, hence being handed over life imprisonment.

Also the Bahraini parliament adopted a bill on May, according to which the leaders and members of dissolved groups were barred from voting in elections.

Bahraini officials have time and again accused dissidents of stoking insecurity and violence, a claim which the opposition has always denied.

Since February 2011, Bahrain has been the scene of daily anti-regime protests.

The Bahraini people seek freedom, justice, the elimination of discrimination and a freely elected goverment.
