The festival was held as part of a program aimed at expanding tourism, introducing Houraman’s top products, and highlighting the attractions and potentials of agritourism in Kurdistan Province.

The pomegranate dance was performed here by a number of youngsters from the village. They carried red pomegranates into the crowd, wearing clothes inspired by the thousands of colors in the nature of this region.

Sarve-Abad village in the Houraman region ranks first in its annual pomegranate production in Kurdistan Province. Most of the orchards are concentrated in Jilvar, Balbar, Salin, and Nav villages.


Limited regional markets and a lack of access to internal markets due to impassable routes, cold stores, and alterant industries are some of the main difficulties faced by the growers in the region. Officials are trying to raise awareness of the Province’s agricultural products by staging these festivals.
