The media in Pakistan is also urging the government to help Iran for safe return of the abducted border guards and enhance its efforts in this regards.

Commander of the Ground Forces of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) Brigadier General Mohammad Pakpour has also arrived in Islamabad to discuss with Pakistani officials the fate of abducted Iranian border guards.

On October 16, Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said terrorists had kidnapped the Iranian forces, including local Basij volunteer forces and border guards, near the town of Mirjaveh on the Pakistani border.

Jaish al-Adl Terrorist group has claimed responsibility for the act. In this regards, there has been contact between the Directors General (Military Operations) of Iran and Pakistan.

This incident is not new as such attacks have happened many times and the Iranians are naturally very serious about their security.

Iranian Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli in a telephone conversation with his Pakistani counterpart Shehryar Afridi has called for suppression of terrorists' bastion along Iran-Pakistan borders.

Pakistani interior minister assured his Iranian counterpart that Pakistan spares no effort to help release Iranian border guards kidnapped by terrorists.

Meanwhile, Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces Major General Mohammad Baqeri had also spoken to Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa asking Pakistan for taking prompt action to arrest kidnappers of Iranian border guards.

Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a phone conversation with his Pakistani counterpart, Shah Mehmood Qureshi had also called for urgent measures by the Pakistani government to ensure the safety and health of the kidnapped border guards.

According to Pakistan foreign ministry statement Shah Mahmood Qureshi expressed his serious concern on the incident. He also briefed Mr. Zarif about the active efforts launched by the Pakistan law enforcement agencies to ascertain the whereabouts of the missing Iranian guards, in coordination with the Iranian military and intelligence counterparts.

Media in Pakistan is also paying special attention to the incident knowing the delicacy of such attacks in strong Iran-Pakistan ties.

Almost all English and Urdu newspapers and electronic media have been issuing stories about the sad incident. Analysts are expressing views urging Pakistani government to help Iran to resolve the matter.

Pakistani defense analyst Lieutenant General (Retd) Amjad Shoaib talking to IRNA has said governments of the two countries must continue their cooperation to undermine enemies’ conspiracies.

He said there should be greater security cooperation and understanding between Iran and Pakistan to stop abduction of security personnel on border region.

Another renowned security analyst Lieutenant General (Retd) Talat Masood told IRNA that Pakistan must help Iran investigate the attack on border guards and use its intelligence agencies as well as the security agencies to punish the culprits.

“It does not help Iran-Pakistan relations and also shows that border needs far greater vigilance,” he said.

Reports stress that Pakistan must persuade this matter very diligently and not forget it after a certain while because it has been the history that the case like this occurs and then the government does not pay the sufficient attention and the case is forgotten.

Leading Pakistan dailies strongly believe that Pakistan should extend all out cooperation to Iran to locate and recover its abducted security and intelligence personnel.

They warn that periodic violence along the Pakistan-Iran border has the potential to escalate into a full-blown crisis if not managed adroitly, particularly at a time when regional tensions are high.

What matters first and foremost is for Pakistan to do its utmost to help recover the kidnapped security personnel and intelligence officers, either by locating them inside Pakistan or sharing intelligence with Iran.

Experts view timely and efficient intelligence cooperation, or a security operation if necessary, can help prevent diplomatic tensions from escalating.

Pakistan media have said from Prime Minister Imran Khan to the military leadership in Pakistan, there is a consensus that friendly ties with Tehran should be maintained and enhanced; helping Iran locate and recover its abducted security and intelligence personnel would help maintain cooperative bilateral ties.

Pakistan media view it is imperative that the two governments sit down and find a final solution to this problem.

President of Pakistan National Solidarity Council Sahibzada Abul Khair Muhammad Zubair talking to IRNA has also said that there is no doubt the intelligence agencies of our enemies are active in Pakistan with a purpose to destabilize the country.

Earlier Pakistan Foreign Minister Qureshi had said that such incidents are the handy work of 'our common enemies' unhappy with the existing close, friendly relations between Pakistan and Iran.

A leading Pakistani Urdu news daily ‘Nawa-i-waqt’ in its editorial comments had warned that objective of the Iranian guards abduction by terrorist groups is to create misunderstanding between two brotherly countries of Iran and Pakistan.

The paper added that such events are intended to create misunderstanding in strong Iran-Pakistan ties. The paper noted that it is encouraging to see that both Iran and Pakistan are aware of this conspiracy.
