Eight hundred dan 40 thousand of this stamp has been printed in line with part of the cultural agreements made between the two countries during a visit by the former South Korean President to Iran in 2016. This was undertaken by the South Korean Central Post Office and Gangwon Province Post Office affiliated to the Ministry of Science and ICT.
Silla is the stone lion symbol of South Korea from the 8th and 9th centuries under the Empire. The Achaemenid Persian Lion Rhyton, or Takuk, is also a conical shaped vessel with a lion’s head. The roaring lion is one of ancient Iran’s art forms which remains behind from Achaemenid times.
Gangwon Province Post Office President said at the unveiling ceremony: “This stamp is a sign of friendship between Tehran and Seoul.”
The historical relationship between Iran and South Korea goes back 1300 years.
