Speaking in the 22nd International Union of Railways (French acronym: UIC) Regional Assembly for the Middle-East (RAME), Mojgan Kordbacheh said, “The trains are planned to transport goods to and from the Europe, and currently we are holding talks on regulatory considerations.”
“Iran maintains relations with other countries to expand international rail freight transport,” she added.
“It has been eight times that the Chinese freight trains have utilized Iranian railway network to reach Turkey and European countries since 2015, and we are planning to host more of these trains,” she said.
Kordbacheh said that 27 tourism trains have carried international tourists to Iran during the past four years from various European and Asian countries.
The Iranian railways network transports some 47 million tons of freight and 24.5 million passengers each year.
The 22nd UIC regional assembly is underway in Iran’s central city of Esfahan from November 26-28.
