The red clusters of barberry and violet blooms of saffron flowers in autumn are great incentives to travel to this province.
A group of 12 Swiss tourists were the first to visit the historic sites of South Khorasan on the first day of autumn in Birjand, including the Unesco registered Akbarieh Garden and Building, Birjand Fort, Shokatieh School, and the historic city fabric. They spent a night at the Birjand tourist hotel.
As the harvest season for the province’s main products such as barberry and saffron begins, more tourists will be traveling to this region.
The favorable climate of the province and the desert areas at this time of year is another factor in attracting domestic and foreign tourists to the South Khorasan province.
South Khorasan in is eastern Iran with Birjand as its capital city. It is the world’s saffron and barberry capital and 96 percent of the entire saffron consumed globally is cultivate here. Ninety-eignt percent of Iran’s barberry product is also from this province and exported to over 30 countries in the world.
